Grasslands Gallery Closes Permanently August 30

July 1-b-webThe hills of home

I’ve lived here for five years. Val Marie, Saskatchewan, gateway to Grasslands National Park, one of Canada’s most beautiful and remote regions. For most of that time I’ve operated Grasslands Gallery, with gorgeous and original art and craft by about 25 artists, inspired by the Grasslands experience. On Saturday this week, August 30, the gallery closes permanently. No one person can do everything and I’ve decided it’s time for me to focus on my own painting. The decision wasn’t arrived at lightly or quickly, but I know it’s the right one to make. The time and energy that went to promoting and selling the art of others will go into creating and marketing my own.

It’s been a wonderful five years. Thank you to all of you – the artists, the visitors, the residents of Val Marie.

And I’m not going anywhere, except to my own studio. If you’d like to follow me there, please head over to the new blog at There I’ll be exploring how to be an artist – the intention, the commitment, the action, the money. I’d love to have you join me.

Every success, Laureen! Your contribution to the community and visitors and artists in the southwest has been immense. The gallery will certainly be missed, but then we’ll get to see the work you couldn’t create as long as your energy was so divided. That’s a plus.
Thanks so much for what you have done — I wish you the best in all regards!

I’ sad to here of the closing of the gallery, and sad I never got to visit it in person. Your passion and prose certainly has motivated me to visit your corner of the world someday and to try my hand at painting it. I’m sure it will be missed in Val Marie, but I know such endeavors are an ever increasing eater of time. I will look forward to seeing post of your new endeavors! Enjoy the time to paint ,

I’m sorry about this, Laureen – it was such a bright spot on the Val Marie / Grasslands landscape! but your art will benefit. Courageous decision.

Good for you Laureen! Difficult to be’ all things to all people at all times’— its so hard to get dedicated time to paint so wish you all success and as I have always loved your writing and appreciated your wisdom as a painter myself I will be following your new blog.

Best wishes
