Mixed Media Art Workshop and Collaborative Art Project – Val Marie Artist in Residence Gerri Ann Siwek

This week’s post is all about the art! In Val Marie, Saskatchewan, the provincially recognized ecomuseum Prairie Wind & Silver Sage continues to host its Artist Residency program, in partnership with Grasslands National Park, funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and SaskCulture. Read on!

On Saturday, September 27, artist in residence Gerri Ann Siwek offers an art workshop called Mixed Media Approach to Nature at the Val Marie Seniors’ Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Discover how painting, drawing, collage and imagery can be combined to express your experiences with nature. Explore your creative and personal connections to the wildlife and native prairie landscape of the Grasslands. This workshop is for anyone ages 15 and over and all levels of experience are welcome. A fee of $65 includes all materials and lunch. Preregistered only, at laureen@grasslandsgallery.com or 306-298-7782. Maximum registration is 15 spaces, so don’t miss out!

Gerri Ann Siwek is a visual artist from Regina. She has exhibited across western Canada and in the US. Her imagery entwines nature and art inspired by curiosity and the wonder that surrounds her. Her exhibition Imprint: Birds and Creatures of the Summer Prairies was shown at Prairie Wind & Silver Sage in 2013. Gerri Ann is a skilled workshop leader who teaches with patience and humor
and believes in the importance of nurturing the creative soul we all possess.

During her 2014 residency, Gerri Ann will also create a mixed-media collaborative art piece on the rare and fascinating greater short-horned lizard, found in Grasslands National Park. Watch for this ongoing project around the park and in Val Marie.
