Description
“Love That Fence” by Diane Larouche Ellard is an encaustic mixed media artwork that explores the unexpected beauty of a humble post and wire fence. The combination of drawing and materials chosen for the satisfaction of using them lets us see a new view of the ordinary. We feel both the beauty and the humour in a scene that might otherwise be so familiar we could have missed it. This abstract landscape painting blends elements of nature and human touch, evoking a sense of connection and continuity.
Diane Larouche Ellard makes her encaustic paintings with beeswax, damar resin (a natural tree sap that acts as a hardening agent), oil paint, and other media. She works in layers, fusing each layer with heat. Her collages use paper from old books, music, newspapers, and journals. She begins by laying out the collage and playing with the pieces of paper. From there she builds up layers of encaustic medium, ink, and collage and other materials. Diane’s process is intuitive, allowing the nature of her chosen media to guide her process.
