Description
“Prickly Pear 2” by Catherine Macaulay shows us the flower of this native Saskatchewan plant, able to grow in the driest, most eroded prairie landscape. Hidden in grass and leaves, the yellow, apricot and gold flowers and buds of the prickly pear cactus are improbably, lusciously soft against severe long spikes. In her appreciation of this wildflower, Catherine Macaulay helps us to find both subtlety and strength.
“Prickly Pear 2” by Catherine Macaulay is painted on Aquabord. Aquabord is crafted for watercolour from hardboard protected with an archival seal. The surface is then coated with an acid-free clay and mineral ground with a texture similar to cold-pressed watercolour paper. Colours retain a remarkable purity and vibrancy, and Aquabord allows artists to frame and display their watercolour without glass.
