Description
With “Prickly Pear 3”, Catherine Macaulay returns to one of her favourite studies. Here she shows us the flower of this native Saskatchewan plant, able to grow in the driest, most eroded prairie landscape. In her appreciation of this wildflower, Catherine Macaulay helps us to find both subtlety and strength. As Catherine meditates on the Grasslands landscape outside her home and studio windows, her modern flower painting contributes to the traditions of her chosen medium.
“Prickly Pear 3” by Catherine Macaulay is painted on Aquabord. Aquabord is crafted for watercolour from hardboard protected with an archival seal. The surface is then coated with an acid-free clay and mineral ground with a texture similar to cold-pressed watercolour paper. Colours retain a remarkable purity and vibrancy, and Aquabord allows artists to frame and display their watercolour without glass.
