Description
“Vigour” by Edie Marshall from her ongoing series of Moving Landscapes paintings. Here she abandons the longer view for an intimate one. It’s a celebration of what grows under our feet. It’s an ode to the light and life we can find in the most humble of settings. These artworks were inspired by Edie’s drawings made while walking on public land in Saskatchewan Canada. Once covered with wild strawberries, it was Edie’s home for much of her life. The elongated shape of the painting suggests a passage through time and space as we join the artist in acknowledging what was and celebrating what we see now.
n Western art, paintings were generally made on panel until the 15th century. Then canvas was adopted as the preferred support across much of Europe. Artists who use the older method find that colors are reflected back to the viewer rather than absorbed into the canvas weave or paper fibers. Artists who want the beauty of their brush marks to show on consistent, smooth surface benefit from working on a panel.
