Description
“Color Dash” by Trevor McDonald offers the pleasure of pure pigment swooped, layered, and built up on canvas, transcending traditional storytelling. Its gestural marks have no source in an external visual reality. This abstract acrylic colour field painting uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which exists independently of external visual references.
Contemporary artist’s acrylic paint is a fast-drying medium composed from pigment particles held in an acrylic polymer emulsion. It can be dissolved in water and applied in thick streaks or thin washes. In contrast with oils, artists’ acrylic paint has a synthetic vibrancy of colour and a glossy finish.
In recent years the technology of acrylic paint has advanced significantly with the introduction of high-performance acrylics. These have properties similar to oil paint such as slow drying times and increased flexibility. This means artists can work on the painting surface for a longer period of time before the paint dries. New acrylic paints also have improved lightfastness and are more resistant to fading over time.
