Description
“Nicely Into August” by Trevor McDonald is pure colour and brush marks, condensed. Though its size is small for pure abstraction colour field painting, it loses no intensity. With thick impasto acrylic paint and the colours of the season it takes its name from, we feel its heat.
Contemporary artist’s acrylic paint is a fast-drying medium composed from pigment particles held in an acrylic polymer emulsion. It can be dissolved in water and applied in thick streaks or thin washes. In contrast with oils, artists’ acrylic paint has a synthetic vibrancy of colour and a glossy finish.
In recent years the technology of acrylic paint has advanced significantly with the introduction of high-performance acrylics. These have properties similar to oil paint such as slow drying times and increased flexibility. This means artists can work on the painting surface for a longer period of time before the paint dries. New acrylic paints also have improved lightfastness and are more resistant to fading over time.
