From Today’s Bouquet Series
“It was the depths of winter and I was in residency at AKA and wanted a diversion from JOTPY and the plague in general...I made these mostly in colour and posted them to social media under the title “Today’s bouquet. Everybody needs one”. Because I did and I think other people do too.”
From 2.9 Billion Birds Series
“I began painting birds 5 years ago after learning that 2.9 billion of them have been eradicated since the 1970’s, that’s in my lifetime. By painting and recording birds I have come to enjoy being in the outdoors even more. Their animation and activity in the world bring great joy and if my paintings can bring even a small attention to their lives, or help people to understand their plight some small goal will be achieved.“

From the Rooftop series
“Because I had lost my studio at the end of May 2021, I resolved to continue my painting outside on my rooftop deck. June and July were very hot and windy in Saskatoon. This had its challenges, which I solved with ice packs, hats and fewer clothes for the heat, and rocks to hold everything down. Despite these difficulties I made paintings, danced, reflected on my own, which given the restrictions of this time and the worrying weather, was my rebellion.”

From Just Good Friends series
“Blazing Dave is a piece that shows the heat of a hike at Gem lakes in northern Saskatchewan that I did with Saskatchewan author Dave Carpenter. All he had was his umbrella and his hat to protect him from the blazing heat of that day, a heat that was higher and harder than any I have experienced yet on the prairies. Ronan and his dog Arlo bounced into my life in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland while I was doing a residency there. Ronan’s irresistible energy and his hat! was something I wanted to capture. His poodle dog Arlo has beautiful colouring and I couldn’t resist trying to get that down as well.“
