This is a very personal message from Laureen, owner, represented artist, and chief bottle washer at Grasslands Gallery Online. Grasslands Gallery Online closes permanently December 31, 2024.
On November 11, I sent an email to the artists who work with Grasslands Gallery Online. I sent it from Isle of Whithorn on the Solway Coast in Scotland, where I was spending a few days with old friends after a lovely artist residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, that followed a beautiful week in western Ireland in Connemara. The month had felt like time out of time, and it gave me the chance to think, and to remember it what feels like to be an artist every day.
That email said what I’m now telling you. Which is that out of this extraordinary period, I’ve made a decision I’ve been considering for a while. Effective December 31, 2024, Grasslands Gallery Online closes permanently so I can give to my own artwork the time and attention the gallery now takes.
The three and a half years the gallery has been open have been a gift. We’ve sold art to wonderful homes, introduced new artists to the wider world, and brought attention to some of the most beautiful artwork made in Saskatchewan. I’m proud of every part of it.
But no one can do everything. Grasslands Gallery Online is a work of love, but this has meant not quite enough love for my own art practice. It’s time to change that.
Meanwhile, the gallery remains open until December 31, as do our Curated Holiday Gift Collections. If there’s something you’ve had your eye on, don’t delay – this might be your last chance! The gallery’s home page will remain live for a few months, with links to the artists’ websites or social media pages. Which doesn’t necessarily mean the artwork you love will still be available to buy 🙂
Thank you to everyone who has looked, admired, and purchased beautiful Saskatchewan art from Grasslands Gallery Online since we opened. And as always, thanks for reading.
