“I have always felt a deep affinity to flowers. My choice to paint flowers was a kind of probe into their interior. Can they show fear, joy, sadness or anger? Does the viewer too ponder these same questions?
“I have recently begun to paint chairs. Chairs interest me because of their strong suggestion of human repose, their usefulness to humans. An empty chair is a metaphor for aloneness, whereas an occupied chair whether it be with a person or inanimate object is like a need being met, a feeling of a completed action, a deep-seated and enduring link.”
